Tour Description

This eight-hour tour will allow you to trace the Battle of Okinawa. We will start in Yomitan Village with stops at both Toguchi Beach, where some of the American forces landed, and a cave where Okinawans hid during the war. We will then move south following the path of American forces to Hacksaw Ridge, a famous battle site where Desmond Doss, a U.S. Army medic, saved 75 people without carrying a weapon. We will then take a lunch break at a local restaurant. After lunch, we will move to the Former Japanese Navy Underground Headquarters. Here we will be able to enter a man-made cave complex created by the Japanese military, which was once used as the headquarters for the Japanese Navy. Our final stop for the day will be at Peace Memorial Park in Itoman. We will visit the Cornerstone of Peace, a memorial to all who died in the Battle of Okinawa along with time for the Okinawa Prefectural Peace Memorial Museum, which tells the story of the Battle of Okinawa and Okinawa's post war years. We will walk up stairs and on uneven walking surfaces. Some stops will include slightly longer distances at a leisurely pace (less than a mile/1.6 km) or extended periods of standing (up to an hour).
